..::taconic camping::..

mum, as promised, alicia and i went up to the Pittsfield, Berkshires in western Mass. for the Memorial weekend and had a really great time. did a long hike and a bunch of short walks. got a taste of the northeast wilderness. camped out for a few nights semi-roughing it! fun... bugs, catapillars and all!

Gigs

The National......: 7/10
The Walkmen.....: 7/10

forgot to bring my cam both gigs and i can't be bothered to do a review. they both had windows of sheer rock joy but only fleeting. i will admit i did turn to alicia after the walkmen played "the rat" and said...."it doesn't get any better than that"... and it was true.... but it wasn't enough... i was expecting more!

9 parts water : 1 part sand

not too many days go by where i see something and think..... gee that was a little weird: yesterday on the train home there was this really strange guy i have seen a few times over the year. one of those peeps who ride the subways for a living and he normally wanders around the car and freaks all out and asks for change. so he gets in the car and sprawls out on the bench and empties his pockets of all his change... a big hand full of quarters a leaves them on the bench. the guy next to him has his ipod on looks at the change an probably thinks that that was his weird quota for the day. so the mental guy gets up and walks down the car and starts asking people for change and then opens the door to the next car and starts car hopping asking for change, leaving say $10 - $15 on the bench.... what's up with the subway car hoppers anyway? straight past empty seats to the front or back of the train and sometimes back again?

4 days in London pt III

My theory now is that no blog post is complete unless there is a sidewalk shot.... at night with an abandoned object (this case a cart).... flash use necessary.

4 Days in London pt I

Well my long weekend trip to London was bloody brilliant. I had such a fun time and I thank all who we apart of the weekend..... especially Alex & Juliette. Lee & Amy came down for Sunday evening and ate Okonomyaki at Lee's fav restaurant. And seeing Chris O, Tanya R, Melanie and David M (even though intoxicated for the most part) was really great.

I got to to a bunch of tourist type stuff including doing a lap of the London Eye, a long walk along the South Bank, Sir John Soan's house, a crazy theatre show below London Bridge, pub, pub & pub, food & more food, markets and walked about 20 miles...... we were super busy all weekend and the weather was cold (not too harsh) but generally sunny or close enough.

Thanks again Alex & Jules for making the trip so brilliant and looking after me!

the drones

Just as the Great Snow of 2006 here in New York City started to settle in Alicia and I saw a band from Melbourne at Southpaw down on 5th Ave, Brooklyn called the Drones. My expectations were a little low, having listened to their album I was wondering what was so original about these fellows. We took the punt all the same. Their style was a mix of all things swamp rock, but mostly Kim Salmon, solo, Beast or a Surrealist. A slight hint of Died Pretty and Rob Youngers The New Christs!!!! all good. They did rock out to the small crowd in the big venue.... i bought a t-shirt off them.

Anyway, this for Lee....... The Drones album title from last year goes like this:
Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By

Birthday

Before the seasons change... i had my birthday a few weeks back and had an awesome brunch at Balthazar in Soho.... for those interested the cold weather has finally kicked in and it might even snow..... so they say.

well this shot wasn't my birthday, and they didn't even know it was close..... but my old roomies got together and we went out drinking at good old Freddies... of course!

uptown

New Years

New Years Eve was fun... Alicia and I had just got back from NM earlier that evening then headed uptown to a party and after the ball had dropped we went back to Brooklyn for the rest of the night..... this is a picture of Chris in top flight!!!! Go Chris, I'm proud of ya!

Christmas

Well I had the pleasure of going to New Mexico between Christmas & New Years and stayed with Alicia & her family. We had glorious weather and the scenery was something else.
